Reflexões acerca da hospitalidade no caminhar para o turismo a partir de um empreendimento no Médio Amazonas

Abstract

Tourism figures as an income alternative in many Amazonian communities, however in the places that it happen there is an interest of the private sector or the third sector that include them in their itineraries or provide the means to the activity in the activity. On the other hand, communities outside this context have more difficulty perceiving the activity and instrumentalizing its beginning. A family-run enterprise located in the Community of São Francisco on the Coast of Terra Nova, in the city of Careiro da Várzea, aroused the interest of the research by including itself in this group. The place attracts attention in the aspects of the reception, natural attributes and will to work with tourism, but the tourist flow does not consolidate, although it has already existed in the past. The research problem pervades why tourism does not happen. It is a case study that used the participant observation with field diary and open interviews to collect data at different moments of the daily life of the community, having as parameters the analysis categories of tourism and hospitality, with the objective of pointing out the necessary elements for the implementation and consolidation of tourism in the community. The research subjects are the host family of the project as well as community members who were willing to talk about the subject and some visitors of the Fazenda PEC. The interviewees assisted in a historical outline of what happened in the region in relation to tourism and pointed out the reasons why the activity does not occur and the elements that they deem necessary for the occurrence. The participants' speeches revealed that tourism has always been seen in the place as an alternative to other destinations, the function of the place in a larger economic context does not favor the emergence of the activity and the community does not feel inserted in the process, therefore, does not perceive it as important.
