Resumo
Aging is a dynamic and continuous process that causes significant changes in the body and mind. These transformations, which affect physical, biochemical, and psychological functions, make the elderly more vulnerable and increase the risk of domestic accidents, such as falls. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate the prevalence of falls among the elderly in Brazil and identify the main risk factors associated with these falls. The results of this review provide a comprehensive overview of the prevalence of falls in Brazil, as well as numerous associated factors. The prevalence of falls among the elderly varies between studies, ranging from 28.1% to 32.1%. The factors associated with falls include sociodemographic characteristics, health conditions, overall functionality, and previous fall history. The methodology of the studies indicates excellent quality, meeting over 80% of the criteria adopted according to the STROBE instrument.
