Resumo
The Amazon basin is the largest hydrographic network in the world and holds a huge diversity of fish. However, there is evidence that the structure and function of these ecosystems is increasingly threatened by rapid expansions in infrastructure and economic activities. Thus, the objective of this chapter was to characterize the fish fauna of Lago de Serpa-AM. For this purpose, four sections of the lake were collected through two sets of seven mesh networks (10.0m x 2.0m), of different meshes, in the periods of July, September, November 2018 and April 2019. After collecting, fixing and preserving the fish, the specimens were identified at the species level with the help of identification keys. As a result, a total of 732 individuals belonging to 88 species were captured, distributed in 62 genera, 24 families and 7 orders. The most abundant orders were Characiformes, Cichliformes and Siluriformes. The most representative families were Cichlidae, Hemiodontidae and Serrasalmidae. Of the 88 species collected, the most abundant were Ageneiosus lineatus (N = 48) and Acestrorhynchus falcirostris (N = 45). Species of economic interest, with importance in the trade of ornamental fish and species appreciated in the fishing market were collected in this study. Thus, Lago de Serpa has a rich fish fauna, with species important for the subsistence of local traditional populations and economically important species. These data contribute to the initial survey of fish fauna in this region and furthermore these results are useful for future management proposals, according to the species richness and its relationship with the local population, emphasizing the importance of cataloging the fish fauna. in modified environments to know the diversity of fish in these places.
