O modelo missionário da Assembleia de Deus Tradicional no Amazonas e sua relação com os Baré em São Gabriel da Cachoeira-AM

Abstract

The present study has the main goal to analyze the missionary model of the ―Traditional Assembly of God in Amazonas‖ and its relationship with the Baré indigenous people, describing how this process manifests itself and what are the constitutive elements of this "model". The focus of the study is the social and religious scenario experienced by the research subjects in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, upper Rio Negro region, Amazonas state, Brazil. The methodology used in this work focuses on participant observation in conjunction with other research methods such as interviews, consultation of historical files and documents. Three pastors, six Baré church members (03 men and 03 women) and six Baré non-church members (03 men and 03 women) were interviewed for this research. The ages of the interviewees varies between 30 and 50 years old. Among the 15 interviews, were selected some reports more accurate and connected to this work. At first, we seek to characterize the city of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, presenting the Baré origin, identity and their current presence in the city. In the second moment, I present a reconstitution of the evangelist model of the Assembly of God church in Brazil, making a historic review. In the third moment, we worked on the aspects of the conversion of the Baré, the religiosity and the church‘s ritual for new memberships. Finally, I present some conflicts of interest between the community and the pastoral authority. In this sense, raising and articulating new data, the research makes a contribution to the anthropology of religions, debating aspects of the intercultural contact between indigenous people and a Pentecostal church. The investigation was built in the encounter between the Baré‘s religiosity and the Traditional Assembly of God in Amazonas religiosity, understanding this meeting as a social phenomenon marked by friction.
