Abstract

The teacher and councilwoman Geminiana Campos Bulcão Bringel was a pioneer in the position of councilwoman in the municipality of Parintins. Her political trajectory follows two more councilorships in the 1950s and 1960s. In this sense, the purpose of this work is to understand her itinerary and political performance in the city council in the mid-twentieth century and her participation as a teacher in the city. Our study identified through the public memories about the political performance, the strategies of female insertion and themes defended in the legislative house. Elective disputes protagonized by her, as well as reflect on gender and feminism, from the professional and political performance of Geminiana Campos Bulcão Bringel in Parintins in the years 1950-60. The twentieth century was a period of significant changes in the capitalist model of production and consequently in countries with this model, including Brazil.In the middle of the 20th century, with its still initiating industrialization, it significantly influenced the existing social and economic conditions in the country. In addition, we perceive the changes that occurred in this period in the municipality of Parintins, understanding the changes departing from the regional to the micro. These transformations connected us to the period of Geminiana Bringel's political and professional performance, with gender studies. To understand the processes and development of women's studies in academia. The collected documentation was analyzed in the context of the theoretical contribution of gender relations studies and feminist thought, together with Norbert Elias' concepts of play and figuration. Geminiana Bringel's iconic participation in the city council brings to light her strategies in being part of a venue occupied mostly by men. Her performance took place in a period of great changes and achievements regarding women's rights, which allowed her to have access to places rarely frequented by women, it is evident a primordial right for women as the access to education. The participation of Geminiana Bringel as councilwoman is accompanied by major changes in the city of Parintins and also follows the political changes in Brazil, such as the transition of the government to military dictatorship.
