Resumo
The thesis "The Patrimonialism as Institutional Culture in the Federal Institute of Education,
Science and Technology Amazon - IFAM" deals with the paternalism in the light of Max
Weber's theory (1864-1920), as a major institutional culture at the Federal Institute of
Education, Science and Technology Amazon - IFAM. The study is also based on the
sociology of Max Scheller (1874-1928); Karl Mannheim (1893-1947) and Pitirim Sorokin
(1889-1968); and anthropology of Homi K. Babba, Nestor Garcia Canclini and Clifford
Geertz. Theoretical approaches studied supported the understanding of patrimonialism, as a
central category in the study developed. The work was based on a dialectical analysis
demonstrating the construction and contradictions that substantiate the existence of the
patrimonial culture at IFAM. The thesis demonstrates, through the exposure of the trajectory
of the institution, since its creation, by Decree no. 7566 of September 23, 1909 as School for
Craftsmen, to the creation, by Law 11,892, of December 29, 2008 the IFAM, the inexorable
force of patrimonial institutional culture, developed over his life, in his role as ente promoter
federal level professional education in the state of Amazonas.
