Abstract

In the last years studies on the military dictatorship in Brazil have diversified their research problems. There are still historiographical gaps regarding the Amazon and the agency of progressive missionaries. This research aims to analyze Egydio Schwade’s narrative, important indigenist, co-founder of Operação Anchieta (OPAN) and Conselho Indigenista Missionário (CIMI). The conflicts with the Fundação Nacional do Índio (Funai) and the CIMI. Also the surveillance undertaken by the Brazilian State over the indigenous movement and the progressive indigenous movement. Your trajectory and the documentation collected based on the recurring themes of the interviews allow us to understand the evolution of indigenismo, perceive the emergence of a pan-indigenous movement, protagonist of disputes for rights, autonomy and the respect of their cultures.
