Os argonautas do Baixo Amazonas

Abstract

This thesis is the result of seven years of research among riverine communities that live in the rural municipality of Maués, located in the Baixo Amazonas region in the state of Amazonas. It comes to understand what are the mechanisms of transmission, maintenance and reproduction of a community of thought between these groups. In order to establish that symbolic elements are in place and what are the transmission technologies used by them, this research is based on performing demonstrations like gambá - a type of musical rhythm from the region and a complex ritual called Comitiva de São Pedro, formed by a group of devotees / revelers for two months of the year sailing several communities of the Baixo Amazonas, where they perform a series of symbolic, social and economic exchange that culminate in the saint's celebration.
