Os flanelinhas e sua legitimidade: uma análise de relações de poder no centro da cidade de Manaus

Abstract

This research aims to seek an understanding of the labour legitimacy of the vehicle keepers (street parking attendants) through the power relationship analysis in which they are immersed around the downtown streets of Manaus. Through bibliographical studies and field research, using interviews instrument, it seeks to build a morphology of these actors and their relationships, demystifying some images and revealing other, as precarious work and their interconnections with other activities. Initially on the path of broad conception of informal and precarious work, we will specifically enter the universe of these keepers / scrubbers vehicles, analyzing its socioeconomic aspects, normative and laws which now regulate such activities. Other equally important aspects are brought to the fore, as the constitution of solidarity relations webs with the other actors in this urban setting, revealing security strategies and protection as well as the alleged practice of illegality or wrongdoing attributed to these workers, this reputation that they have been trying to change. In this context, cooperatives and associations appear as crucial elements regarding the structure and organization of the activity, usually seen from the perspective of stigma and prejudice, both by the general population as the local press. Thus, the understanding of the relationship of domination and power by parking attendants will depart in principle the construction of the scene and its actors through the daily working practice, in view that even have their activities, expressed in their own accounts in interviews and the collected data, to then be articulated within a theoretical discussion.
