Resumo

One of the expectations that involves the birth of a child is related, for a mother, is the idea of taking a healthy baby home, however, this fact can be interrupted by admission to the Neonatal Unit (UN). Hospitalization of the newborn (NB) can have several implications for the baby and the family. The objective of this research is to investigate the levels of stress, anxiety and postpartum depression in mothers with children admitted to the UN in a Reference Maternity in Manaus / AM. This is a research with a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional design and data collection, with a convenience sample. 54 mothers participated in the study, assessed through a sociodemographic questionnaire and the instruments: Parental Stress Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PSS: NICU), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (Ham-A) and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). The mothers' average age was 24 years old (63%), moderate prematurity (44.4%) and cesarean delivery (55.6%). Regarding the level of stress, high rates were observed associated with the subscale "change in the role of father and mother" (M = 4.3 and SD = 0.9). They presented with moderate intensity 11.4% of the mothers (n = 24), while 7.4% (n = 4) severe anxiety. There were significantly higher values of depressive symptoms in mothers 63% (n = 34). It is hoped that the results of this research can collaborate for the implementation of public policies in the maternal and child area, as well as encourage research and interventions developed in the neonatal environment with a view to the mother-baby binomial, in addition to promoting family stability and social support. mothers, and consequently benefits for the baby's development.
