Abstract: This work aimed to study the production system and the dynamics of the cattle herd in Parintins-Amazonas. The area of the object of study covered the geomorphological units of the Amazon Lowland and highland in Parintins with coordinates: 02o30’0” - 03o0’0”S e 56o 30’0” -57o0’0”. In materials and methods, we used the Hypothetical-Deductive Approach Method and the Procedural Method – Case Study, paired with other research techniques, including Documentary Research, Bibliographic Research, Computational Cartography aided by Field Supervision/Field Truth . The data were obtained: from the Agência de Defesa Agropecuária e Florestal do Estado do Amazonas – ADAF-PIN/AM, relating to the Reports for the years 2015 to 2022 and computational databases for the years 2021; Metadados da Pesquisa da Pecuária Municipal - IBGE from the decades of 2000 to 2020. The results demonstrated the dynamism of cattle farming in Parintins with seasonal transit between the lowlands (period of ebb and dry rains) and highlands (period of rains and floods fluvial). The establishments of the registered cattle ranchers, together with their productive and production systems adopted, the composition of the herds, rates and indices, slaughter, the commercialization of animals and trends in the herd, etc. The results showed that livestock in Parintins is still archaic and with low use of technology. It is based on the exploration of highland and floodplain pastures, and is very dependent on the regime of floods and ebbs, suggesting that periods of great flooding can cause a decrease in pasture in the lowlands. As for the herd, the data indicate a decrease in the cattle herd, mainly the categories of animals related to rearing and finishing, as well as the number of cattle raisers. However, the production of calves and heifers remains, to some extent, constant. The data together show that livestock activity in Parintins is in decline and that it is still extensive and very dependent on the system of floods and ebbs of the Amazon River. This may represent a loss of income in the countryside and a decrease in the quality of life in the countryside, in addition to increasing the food insecurity of the riverside population and loss of income for the city of Parintins.
