Produtividade e sustentabilidade do cultivo do açaizeiro (Euterpe precatoria Mart) no município de Humaitá – Amazonas

Resumo

Açaí has economic, social and environmental importance in the Amazon. Its production is basically carried out through extractivism, which demands a large contingent of labor and requires skill in handling and harvesting the fruits, being generally the main source of income for extractivists. The scarcity of scientific data related to the cultivation of the açaí tree of the species Euterpe precatoria led to the elaboration of the present study, in which the productive system, the productivity and the sustainability of the production of the açaizeiro of the Amazon (Euterpe precatoria Mart) in the Alto Crato community, municipality of Humaitá/AM. Data collection was carried out through the application of a questionnaire to the producers, with the installation of an experiment in the field, literature review and document analysis in public institutions. In the results, the species showed productivity that increases from 9 years of age, however, below its genetic potential. Even considering this situation, the sustainability of the Euterpe precatoria cultivation system proved to be average, generating income for family farmers, in addition to contributing positively to the environment. Through more in-depth studies on the species, productivity can increase and thus contribute even more to improving the quality of life of family farmers in Humaitá, taking into account sustainability indicators.
