Os espaços fúnebres na cidade de Manaus

Resumo

According to Lewys Mumford 1998, the advent of death brought to primitive men the preoccupation with the city of the dead, thinking of it before the city of the living, because since ancient times there was already a concern with the final home of the dead, that's why cemeteries were created then. In this perspective, the Funeral Spaces of the City of Manaus will be approached. The research seeks to understand the importance of this spatial form, its evolution over time, the consequences of a possible scarcity of these funerary spaces or even their finitude, as well as to identify solutions for optimizing those places so that this does not happen. Cemeteries have gained different formats and perceptions throughout their historical evolution, but it was only from the Middle Ages that they were secularized and became as we know them today, as spatial forms that carry with them memory and culture that represent the history of humanity. With secularization, burial sites change, from inside churches to extramural and open-air cemeteries, thus evidencing the process of secularization of the State and the weakening of the church and religion on decisions in social life. In large urban centers, over time, cemeteries have been incorporated into cities by the urbanization process and have become a problem for the living, as in many cities there is no intention of building new cemeteries, with this a problem arises that would be the concern with the lack of spaces to bury the dead and the consequences that this would bring to societies. This concern was not so highlighted, but with the emergence of Covid 19, several cities in the country went into funeral collapses, where the concern about the lack of spaces became a challenge to urban management. Thus, it can be understood how such analysis becomes essential for the planning and management of a city, so it becomes necessary to create public or private policies that enable the establishment of effective strategies to combat the lack of these funeral spaces. Death is a historical act, but it is a problem for the living, as it is the living who must take measures so that the city of the dead does not harm or interfere with the city of the living. The present work had as methodology, the bibliographic survey as well as the field research. The delimitation of the problematic has as axis the Funeral Spaces in the City of Manaus. The general objective of the study is to analyze the transformations that cemeteries have undergone over time and their importance as a spatial form. The methods used will be through observation, use of data and information from Semulsp.
