Resumo

This study contemplates an analysis of the indigenist policies that have been developed in the State of Amazonas, covering the forms of alterity that have been constructed by the SEIND (Secretaria de Estado dos Povos Indígenas, or Indigenous Peoples State Department) with the variety of agencies, organizations and indigenous and indigenist movements that are associated with SEIND. To that purpose, it elaborates a historical analysis on the indigenous policies (through a series of legislative/normative texts – legal device) carried in Brazil, focusing especially on the region where Amazonas is currently set, over the colonial, imperial and repúblican periods, promoting reflection on the different strategies/proposals that have been put in practice by the authorities of the state on themes such as management of the indigenous peoples issue, focusing on the ends aimed in these interventionist policies. Its enacts, also, an analysis covering the period of consolidation of the indigenous protagonism as an essential piece of importance in the definition of the fundamentals of the indigenist management in the states pf Amazonas, focusing on some experiences of construction of an open dialogue and conflict with the agencies of state and proposes a critical discussion on the ten years of participation of indigenous people in the state apparatus, giving special attention to the last six years of this segment done by SEIND, an organ within the structure of the state government, which comes up in 2009 to substitute the FEPI (Fundação Estadual dos Povos Indígenas, or Indigenous Peoples State Foundation).
