Aplicação da metodologia SMED para redução do tempo total de setup em uma indústria de fabricação de pneus: Estudo de caso para implementação em extrusora de borracha.

Resumo

Considering that the tire manufacturing sector in Brazil employs 28.8 thousand direct workers and approximately 819.3 thousand indirect workers and that the tire industry's main sales channel is the replacement market and the dealer network, which represent 60% of total sales in the sector, and that automakers account for 24% and the remaining 16% are exports, the entry of products imported from Southeast Asia becomes a constant danger for the national market and therefore local manufacturing processes need be optimized to increase competitiveness. To survive this competitive market, most national companies adopt a Lean strategy, which in short means giving the customer exactly what they want, in the quantity they need and in the time they want, with as little waste as possible. . SMED (Single Minute Exchange Die) is a tool designed to reduce the time between changes in manufacturing processes. In this case study, the implementation of SMED in rubber extrusion equipment (Duplex) was evaluated, which presented a reduction in setup time of 47.3% resulting in an improvement of almost 20 minutes, making it possible to leverage the production capacity of a motorcycle and bicycle tire factory, achieving the main objective of reducing the time it takes to change between one motorcycle tread and another, improving performance and reducing equipment waste.
