Resumo

The environmental issue currently permeates all aspects of social life. The predominance of the capitalist mode of production pushed the world towards the unrestrained consumption of natural resources. Accelerated economic growth and globalization have strongly affected the notion of the intrinsic value of heritage, whether material or immaterial. In the defense of material cultural heritage, museums represent an important instrument for building identity and transmitting knowledge, and should therefore be valued for their social, environmental and cultural role. The region's population growth and research in Amazonian soil, whether academic or resulting from environmental licensing, have resulted in the discovery of a large volume of archaeological artifacts, whose conservation requires specific care that require materials and methods that can be harmful to the environment, being a challenge for museum institutions to adopt mechanisms that can mitigate environmental aggressions. For this reason, this research aimed to analyze the management processes applied to the archaeological heritage safeguarded by the Archaeological Laboratory of the Amazon Museum, under the prism of sustainable museum management. The research is justified in view of the historical, cultural and scientific value of the investigated archaeological collection. In addition, it was necessary to reconcile the adoption of a sustainable management model as a way of valuing the Institution within a context of socio-environmental responsibility. Methodologically, the deductive method was used in the research; as for the means, the research was bibliographical, since academic articles, books, laws, decrees, ordinances, normative instructions, and internal laboratory reports were used; as for the purposes, the methodology used was that of qualitative and quantitative research. A diagnosis of the management of the Laboratory of Archeology was carried out, in which the data collected in the research were scored and a parallel was drawn with the dimensions of sociocultural, economic and environmental sustainability. As a result of the research, proposals were presented for sustainable practices that the management of the Archeology Laboratory could adopt, to advance in areas such as: energy saving, water consumption, recycling and waste generation
