Resumo
Floristic biodiversity has become an extremely debated subject worldwide. As the numbers of deforestation, pollution, fires and global warming increase, the need to preserve forests and their plant biodiversity grows. In addition, it is necessary to observe the ecosystem importance of this floristic biodiversity. In this environmental schedule, the Amazon Forest becomes central because it has the greatest biodiversity of living organisms on the planet. Considering that to preserve the forest ecosystem and avoid its destruction, an effective involvement of society is necessary. People's knowledge about the environment, what they know about nature and how much they know can be considered important points because they are fundamental questions for any individual who is responsible for the protection of the natural environment in which he is part of. For this, people's perceptions about this biodiversity become a fruitful way to understand the ways of care and protection given to the forest. This exploratory-descriptive study investigated the different environmental perceptions of the floristic biodiversity of the Amazon had teenagers of elementary school in Manaus, Amazonas. Participated in this study, 60 students from two state public schools, who answered a semi-structured questionnaire with 19 open and closed questions. The data were submitted to Bardin's Content Analysis. The results showed low conceptual knowledge about plant biodiversity and considerable difficulty in identifying native species from non-native ones. When considering responsibility for the care of preserving biodiversity, the participants attributed it more to others than to themselves. Such results point to the need for more effective teaching so that these adolescents can appropriate significant learning in the search for more awareness for the Amazon biodiversity.
