Consumo de alimentos ultraprocessados e síndrome metabólica em adolescentes: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature to examine the relationship between consumption of Ultra Processed Foods (UPAs) and Metabolic Syndrome (MS) in adolescents. Searches were conducted in MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE (via ScienceDirect), LILACS (via VHL) and Cochrane Library databases. Original studies conducted in adolescents aged 10 to 18 years, addressing PSA consumption, with no language or publication date restrictions, were included. Two independent researchers used Rayyan QCRI software to retrieve the articles, removing duplicates. In addition, Mendeley Reference Manager software was used for reference management. For analyses of methodological quality and risk of bias, Joana Briggs Institute (JBI) assessment tools were used. The certainty level of evidence was conducted using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. The results of this review demonstrated a positive association between consumption of PSAs and risk for developing MS in adolescents, in addition to secondary outcomes. Further studies with larger samples and better quality are needed to confirm our findings and understand the causality between exposure to this type of food and the health outcomes of interest.
