Território imaginado: imagens da Amazônia no cinema

Abstract

This is an empirical survey about the representation of the Amazon in the cinema. For those we searched to identify the social genesis of Amazon concept s to make an analysis about how the commonly notions are social and historical bounded, been part of an discourse that are linked to the european colonial project over the so called new world. The analysis of the explanatory categories for the Amazon on concrete examples of their representation on international cinema on a first cut, help us to understand how the cinema reforced and spread the exotic discourse about the region, a certain concept about the Amazon on occidental imaginary. When we close the cut on the representation of the Amazon on Brazilian cinema, we will see how its representation is dislocated to new axis, given the social and political context since the 1960 and 1970 s. Finally, with the focus on the cinema produced on the Amazonas state, we look to contextualized our main object, the series Documentos da Amazônia, in an perspective that look for an displacement of the concept of Amazon to an axis where that representation no more exists as a imaginary reference, but assumes s cultural and social configuration, assuring your own discourse, make it possible to affirm an authentic cultural identity, resulted of an process of critical revision of his own historicity and of an cultural autoconscious, revealed through an cinema project made inside of an public television on Amazonas state on the late 1970 s.
