A língua portuguesa na comunidade indígena Tikuna São José I, Ilha do Camaleão, município de Anamã - AM

Resumo

This dissertation aims to present the results of a research that aimed to diagnose, under-stand and reflect on the use of the Portuguese language in the context of the indigenous Tikuna community São José I, located on the Ilha do Camaleão, municipality of Anamã-AM. In this context, the language is characterized as an object of power and identity of a people, observed that predominantly in the studied community, the use of Portuguese as a single language is very present. In this line of investigation, we intend to present reflec-tions and facts about the use of the Portuguese language in the community and what are the motivations that contributed to a process of displacement of the mother tongue, mak-ing Portuguese as the first language and the indigenous language restricted to a small group of speakers. Of an ethnographic nature, based on the reflections of Applied Lin-guistics, the research constitutes a qualitative approach, based on the thoughts of Mélia (1979), Rodrigues (1996), Maher (2007), Braggio (2002) among other authors dealing with the use of the Portuguese language in the context of indigenous communities, whether as a first or second language. Finally, the study, based on the analysis of the in-formation collected, deduces that Portuguese, as the main tool for dialogue with the sur-rounding society, is the majority language and with full vitality in this Tikuna communi-ty. And that there is, among the villagers, a strong current for bilingual education.
