Resumo

The peasant woman has gained more visibility in various parts of the Amazon through its participation in the struggle for land, in defense of the forest and natural resources. The way of life of the Amazonian peasants, and especially Women, has a close relationship with the river, where the floodplain is part important in your life that is closely linked to the movement of water. In this perspective, from an ethnographic study conducted in 2011 and 2012, the Santa Luzia community of Shoal Island - municipality of Iranduba, Lower floodplain Solimões, Amazonas State - This paper aims to reflect as articulates the notion of sustainability with the perception that women floodplain Amazon has on their way of life. Thus, the first chapter - "My diaa day It is very busy ": the peasant women of Santa Luzia the Bog Island - deals with "Ethnographic experience" (Clifford, 1998), presenting women's way of life peasant of Santa Luzia the Bog Island from descriptions and analyzes of community of family and work. The second chapter - "Women are neither men ": gender relations in social organizations of the Island - analyzes the relationship power expressed in gender notion, from the dynamics of social organizations that stand out on the island. Finally, the third chapter - "And they're talking about both environment ... ": connections between Santa Luzia the Bog Island and sustainability - make a brief critical analysis of the concept of sustainable development and, Therefore, we seek to understand the possible connections between the peasant and the Baixio the notion of sustainability, especially through the social organization process of the women. The notion of sustainability presented by Santa dwellers Luzia the Bog Island and particularly by women during the ethnography, seeks to incorporate this holistic view of society. Their concerns are very more in education and health, but also questioned details of the daily, involving the quality of water and food and the problem of garbage disposal.
