Introduction: The conditions of work relate to the health of the professional and the safety assistance provided to the patient. A form to measure such effects is by means of the evaluation of job satisfaction and the presence of depressive symptoms in the health professional. Objective: To assess job satisfaction and depressive symptoms among university hospital’s professionals. Method: This is a cross-sectional study with random sampling and calculation of the sample size in 300 employees. The data were collected with eletronic questionnaires containing two instruments: Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and sociodemographic questions. Data were analyzed using the Stata 14.2 to indentify factors associated with the outcome. Results: Of the 323 guest employees, 23 refused to participate (response rate: 93%); 67% of the respondents were women, 48% were the ages of 36 to 50 years old, 41% in the area of nursing and 84% had direct contact with the patients. The majority of professionals are dissatisfied with the domains related to promotion, benefits, condition and pay. Nursing professionals (β = 13.2, p = 0.003) and technical support (β = 15.9, p = 0.001) presented higher satisfaction than physicians. Social class B2 (β = 12.6, p = 0.001) and C / D / E (β = 13.2, p = 0.003) presented higher job satisfaction in comparison to class A. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 19% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 15-23%). Graduate professionals presented a higher prevalence of depressive symptoms (ratio prevalence PR = 2.19, 95% CI = 1.33-3.59) compared to postgraduates, and those with two employment ties had a lower prevalence of depression in comparison to professionals which have only one employment tie (RP = 0.39, 95% CI = 0.19-0.79). Professionals with a workday exceeding 60 hours weekly presented lower prevalence of depressive symptoms (RP= 0,40; IC 95%=0,16-0,97). Conclusion: The overall satisfaction indicated that the professionals were neither satisfied nor dissatisfed with their jobs. Approximately 2 in 10 employees presented depressive symptoms, being more frequent in graduate profesisonals and only one employment tie.
