“Mulheres que botam banca”: gênero e venda de comida em bairros populares de Santarém/PA

Resumo
When walking through the city of Santarém it is possible to notice the presence of various types of sale of goods and services rendered by women in homes. In this study, the central object of analysis is the women who “botam banca" in Santarém / Pa. The "botar banca" is a native category characterized by the sale of food on wooden tables, placed near the residences developed by women; There is a variety of foods, and there is no specialization in just one dish. In general, those women develop many different responsibilities (Such as sale of products by catalog, sale of animals, crochet, among others) in their domicile along with selling food. To carry out this research, were made interviews with 22 women who “botam banca" in peripheral neighborhoods of Santarém, especially in the neighborhoods of Livramento, Interventoria, Santana and São José, located in the área of the great Prainha. Interviews were also conducted with some clients, neighbors, husbands and children of the interviewed women. With the analysis of the data obtained in the work field, it was noticed that the “botar banca" is a total social fact, since it involves all areas of the social life of women who practice it, thus shifting the focus of purely economic issues reflections on gender, violence, the world of women's work, the family, aid relations, networks for the exchange of goods among others arise.
