As vogais médias pretônicas no falar de Manaus (AM)

Abstract

This work has the objective of verify phonetic-phonological behavior of pretonic vowels /e/ and /o/ in the Manaus’s urban zone. Thus, the study follows Dialectology principles and Linguistic Geography methods, and it was developed by bibliographic and field research. A questionnaire based of Cruz (2003) and Silva (2009) works was applied to 24 informants, distributed by gender and three age range (18-35, 36-55 and more of 55 years old), which has studied until the 9th year of elementary school, Portuguese language speakers, inhabitants of four Manaus’s districts: São Raimundo, Centro, Colônia Antônio Aleixo and Parque 10 de Novembro. The production of this work will enable the strengthening and advancement of studies conducted in Brazil and will contribute to phonetic records present in the Linguist Atlas of Amazonas – ALAM (CRUZ, 2004). Thereby, it is verified the importance of this research to contribute to the knowledge of the peculiarities of the talking Amazon, a State which has been so little explored with regard to language studies, providing data about a location not yet studied, allowing comparisons between regions into account also the capital of Amazonas. The results rely on the production of 96 linguistic maps and 13 phonetic contextual maps which demonstrate the predominant use of [ê] and [ô], although the majority use of variants [é] e [ó] and variants [i]e [u] in intralinguistic specific contexts.
