Festa de São José Operário na comunidade de Terra Preta do Rio Mamuru em Parintins

Abstract

This dissertation was developed in the community of Terra Preta of the Mamuru River, in the rural area of the Municipality of Parintins - AM, where the feast of its patron saint was studied. The objective was to understand through the history of the feast to Saint Joseph the Worker, the dynamics of festive practices, and the senses that the participants attribute to the act. We choose as specific objectives: A) To investigate the origin of the community of Terra Preta and its saints of devotion, relating to the feast; B) Carry out a review of the literature for an extended understanding of the concepts of holy feast; C) Investigate the senses that devotees, residents and visitors attribute to the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. The method employed took as its starting point thematic oral history, through semi-structured interviews, having as a source the memory of devotees, community residents and visitors. Participant observation technique was used to perceive the non-said by the interviews and to know better the feast of santo. The interdisciplinary perspective guided the construction of the theoretical foundations of the research, aiming at more complete views about the object. The main assumption we prove is that the feast of saint is understood as a form of religiosity and, at the same time, of sociability. Thus people attribute symbolic meanings to festive moments and elements that can be understood under a perspective of complementarity in the party.
