Resumo
This work addresses the most recent territorial behavior in the Amazon, characterized by the killing of botos (river dolphins) used as bait in fishing for a species of smooth fish called piracatinga. This is a descriptive-exploratory research. This approach is justified because studies show that the botos (river dolphins) population in the region has halved in the past ten years due to predatory hunting. The methodology for the construction of this thesis made a bibliographic analysis of the classic and contemporary works that registered the symbolism and the oral tradition of the Amazonian universe. Subsequently, with the application of questionnaires, in a qualitative and quantitative way, we compare the multiple realities that are coming into conflict. The objects in question permeate the boto (river dolphins) and the piracatinga. In fact, culture and society in the Amazon. The results obtained evidenced an environmental imbalance in the researched region, corroborating for the extermination of aquatic species, unhealthy conditions of the fishermen and, an unsustainable fishing practice. The study recommends environmental education work in the region to serve as a basis for further scientific research and public policies in order to prevent negative impacts on fishing activities.
