Cordões de pássaros e os práticos da festa: cultura, memória e resistência no Mocambo do Arari - Parintins (1952-2018)

Abstract

This research sought to problematize the experiences of the workers which have the party of “cordões de pássaro” Jaçanã and Pavão Misterioso, realized in Mocambo do Arari, agroville in the countryside of Parintins / AM. The celebration has been happening in the region since 1952, even before the official formation of the agroville by the Diocese of Parintins in 1964. The cords used to play then on the festive calendar of Saint John. After a long interruption’s period between contradictions and local disputes, in 2004 residents organize the first Mocambo do Arari’s Folk Festival, with the presentation of cords, gangs and oxen. However, by virtue of other social interests, the oxens’ game gradually gains space and become the cords’ party secondary. Yet again, the players, individually or organized, articulate by themselves in resistence’s tactics for the continuity of that culture. Then, this study looked up to reflect about the production of a counter-hegemonic memory in the region, revaluing other narratives of that experience, highlighting the social practices of black women and men, children, adults and the elderly, who fight against discrimination and social concealment of their cultural activities. In this way, the support of the methodology of oral history was indispensable, making it possible to highlight the life trajectories of those who often have their memories have been silenced, forgotten or excluded, and who resist through the “cordões de pássaros” in dream weave, longings and struggles for the right to memory, the city and citizenship.
