Espelho do masculino em contos de a cidade ilhada de Milton Hatoum

Abstract

This dissertation proposes to analyze how the formation of identity occurs according to the historical-social moment, presenting possible forms of masculinity, its process of social formation and the narrators present in A Cidade Ilhada (2009), by Milton Hatoum. This work has fourteen short stories, six of which make up the corpus of this research, namely: “Dançarinos na última noite”, “Varandas da Eva”, “O adeus do comandante”, “A casa ilhada”, “Bárbara no inverno” and “Encontros na península”. The context in which relationships are intertwined in the narratives is observed, contributing to the representation of behaviors throughout the plots. With the development of the defined points, it is possible to understand that the power developed through historical and cultural aspects corroborates the different formations of masculinity in the selected stories. To substantiate the arguments made, we resort to the reflections raised by Susana Funck, Socrates Nolasco, Pierre Bourdieu, Michel Foucault, Gerda Lerner and Homi Bhabha.
