Resumo

This research aims to verify in what sense the hybridism occurs in the context of popular religiosity dedicated to the Virgin of Carmel, in Parintins, Amazonas State, giving special emphasis to the feast in honor of this saint. The Lusitanian action in the Amazon in the seventeenth century was responsible for the proliferation of religious festivals around devotion to patron saints. The cultural syncretism in this region justifies the presence of a popular religiosity that has a close relationship between the Mother of Jesus and the elements of nature, highlighting the maternal archetype associated with Mother Nature. The research assumed the theoretical and methodological support of the Humanities and Social Sciences, in an interdisciplinary dialogue, especially between Philosophy, History and Sociology, with ethnography as its field support. The locus of this research is the area that includes the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Parish, belonging to the Diocese of Parintins, located in the Lower Amazon, specifically the Cathedral Square and its surroundings. Among the multiple results revealed was the fact that the feast of Nossa Senhora do Carmo is the most expressive religious event in the Amazon. The party mobilizes the various sectors of Parintinense society, including commerce and the profane actions consigned to the infernal offenses, which are in its surroundings. This popular religiosity, expressed in the devotion to the Virgin of Carmel, contributed to the creation of the Parintins Folk Festival, at which time the rivalries of the Guaranteed and Caprichoso fans are appeased. The festival artists come together to make the allegories of the festivities, styling the artistic praxis in the religious activities of the party. Compadecida's self in the Amazon reveals that Mary is the Merciful Mother who welcomes and welcomes all the sons and daughters who come to her, helping them in their pains, afflictions and needs. This leads us to realize, by way of conclusion, that the Amazon is governed by a feminine principle embodied in the feasts of Nossa Senhora do Carmo in Amazonas and Nossa Senhora de Nazaré in Pará.
