Ribeirinhos urbanos: modos de vida e representações sociais dos moradores do Puraquequara

Abstract

Puraquequara east zone borough from Manaus since 1995 lived since the 70 s a sequence of social, economical and cultural modifications, unleashed by migration of its inhabitants from the waterlogged area to the land. In this way, the lifestyle of the inhabitants constructed on solidariety, on mutual helping relationships, on agriculture, on fishing and farming hands over space to new forms of production and reproduction of the material and symbolic life, guided on urban values, on the dynamic of the city and on urban life habitus . So that it is possible to notice these modifications have been procecuted and how the urban ribeirinhos constructed their lifestyle by being in this frontier line between the rural and urban space. Thus, it was done the local research, seeking to capture the social representations of the residents and with those ones that develop professional activities straightly linked to the rural world, called in this study as urban ribeirinhos , according to the paradoxal condition lived by them, that is, they do rural professional activities, but living in a urban space. It was observed that in Puraquequara Village , most of the residents develop activities highly urban, connected to the commerce, to the industry, to the civil building, civil service etc. As regards as rural activities, there are a group of residents that develop them, being that most of the activities are related by fishing. Concernig to these urban ribeirinhos , it is possible notice that the connection with the work world is one of the elements must significant to its identifications with the rural world. This study shows that the relation among the work world, the development of religion and cultural activities as the São Sebastião party help them to keep alive the spirit of the waterlogged life the rural habitus .
