BACKGROUND: Nutrition risk screening based on "Nutrition Risk Screenin-2002 (NRS-2002)" is a tool recommended by scientific societies, however, this instrument application should be optimized by a software application for faster results and the improvement of professional procedures. A software used as support in this kind of the activity can optimize response time and enable faster actions by nutritionists. In the search for a better offer of health services, both for managers and for the population in general, the proposed theme has, among other things, to streamline and optimize the time of application by nutritionists, through a software / application in the accomplishment of the nutritional screening at the moment of the hospitalization of the patients that search the service for elective surgery, as well as, to offer more agility in the hospitalization, reception and the approach of the patients, contributing and stimulating the multiprofessional health care in the elective surgery service at Hospital Universitário Getúlio Vargas (HUGV). OBJECTIVES: General, to develop nutritional risks screening software to use when the patient is hospitalized for elective surgery at a university hospital. Specific, 1. To conduct the survey and requirements analysis of nutritional risk screening NRS-2002; 2. To develop an application based on the NRS-2002 interface to facilitate the use of resources that allow greater interactivity between the application and desktop system of the nutrition unit for the clinical nutricionists; 3. To enable the nutritionist to use a practical and effective tool in nutritional risk screening. METHODS: This is a bibliographic, explanatory, basic, development and applied research, carried out in the Information Technology laboratory at Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM) and HUGV in the clinical nutrition unit. With simulation of the application of nutritional risk screening in electronic form embedded in Android operating system mobile device, for future use next to adult patients who will undergo elective surgery at HUGV. RESULTS: After the construction and development of the application and put on the mobile device, the interoperability simulations were carried out, where the functionality of the electronic nutritional risk screening form was verified, with the inclusion of information such as: registration number, name of the patient, age, anthropometric measures: body weight, height, body mass index, underlying disease and surgical procedure, performed from February to October 2017. CONCLUSIONS: It is expected that in the future that the use of electronic nutritional risk may contribute for the optimization of the screening, as well as to obtain the results and immediate nutritional diagnosis, in the storage and printing of the forms generated in the clinical nutrition unit, as soon as possible after the end of the application of the electronic screening together with the patients referred for the elective surgery service at HUGV.
