Resumo
The present study evaluated the effect of cubiu’s dietary fiber (Solanum Sessiliflorum
Dunal) on diabetic rats. For this purpose, fruits (cubiu) were used from the
Experimental Station of ARIAÚ, from the National Research Institute of Amazonas
(INPA) and diabetic rats from the INPA bioterium. The experimental trial design
included a period of induction of diabetes in rats in adults, weighing an average of
250g, using streptozotocin (40mg/kg of body weight) for a period of 15 days, followed
by the 28 day trial period. The experimental design consisted of 3 groups of 10
diabetics rats and 1 group of 8 normal rats (control), distribuited in randomized blocks
distributed as follows: Group 1: diabetic rats, receiving casein-based ration with 5%
fiber (microcrystalline cellulose); Group 2: diabetic rats receiving casein-based ration
with 10% fiber (microcrystalline cellulose); Group 3: diabetic rats receiving caseinbased ration with 10% fiber from the cubiu and Group 4: group of normal rats,
receiving casein-based ration with 5% fiber (microcrystalline cellulose). Weekly, was
collected blood from the rats via caudal, for glucose analysis according to the method
of Trinder (1966). The results demonstrated that cubiu is a low calorie fruit and a
promising source of dietary fiber. The rats that received the fiber from the cubiu
presented a serum glucose reduction at the end of the 3rd (277.5 ± 68.0 mg/dL) and
4th (224.4 ± 85.5 mg/dL) week when compared to the control group, 10% fiber,
(351.4 ± 139.0 mg/dL). Therefore, it was concluded that, according to the concentrations of dietary fiber used, cubiu presented a hypoglycemic action at the
end of the experiment, suggesting more studies in relation to the greatest impact:
pulp or bark.
