Habitar na cidade: provisão estatal da moradia em Manaus, de 1943 a 1975

Abstract

This paper discusses the state provision of housing between the years 1943 and 1975 in Manaus, Amazonas, from set of documents that included newspapers, official posts, projects, laws, advertising texts, images, maps. In a range of significant increase in urban poor housing, marked by incipient disciplinary urban planning and increasing effort by the government, to promote housing programs guided by the commodification of peripheral workers housing, housing developments were remarkable as a way of structuring areas urban expansion, influencing the cultural configuration of the changing landscape. In it were present other ways of living and ways of life for unwanted idealized image of the city by public administrators who aspired to pretentiously progress arising from a planned industrialization, setting a clear confrontation between the state standard intended for low-income housing and social practice other forms of inhabiting the city, many of which are culturally rooted
