Protagonismo indígena na cidade: os Tikuna em Manaus e a Associação Comunidade Wotchimaücü (1994-2013)

Abstract

This thesis is the result of a research elaborated and developed based on Tikuna Indigenous Community in the City of Manaus, Brazil. Using oral sources and dialogue between two important disciplines: history and anthropology, we focused on the perspective of historical indigenous leadership in which these subject is expressed through the Wotchimaücü Community Association – WCA (or Associação Comunidade Wotchimaücü – ACW in portuguese). The process of Tikuna urban policy organization is historically related experiences by the group in the upper Solimões from the 80s, the choice for life in the city, the challenges found in urban life and the territorial agglomeration of tikuna community currently present in Manaus. Entering to the theme about the Tikuna association, we highlight your organization, relations with other entities, indigenous or not, and two of its main two important vindication: education and cultural entrepreneurship.
