Teolinda Gersão e os campos de poder em A cidade de Ulisses

Resumo

The present study was prepared to analyze the novel A Cidade de Ulisses by Teolinda Gersão. It was found that, through a memorialistic resumption undertaken by the protagonist Paulo Vaz, a prestigious artist, the writer problematizes the perpetuation of patriarchal speeches and behaviors in the second half of the 20th century. In the midst of the events that unfold in the plot, it became evident that these remain renewed due to the power relations that are active. In this context, it was important to understand the voice of the author Gersão as an intellectual who, coherently, problematizes the place for members of society, based on lived relationships. For that, the main theoretician chosen was Pierre Bourdieu whose central idea in the work The Rules of Art, about the objectification of the literary text consists of the methodology applied here. Other thinkers, such as Mikhail Bakhtin, Michelle Perrot, Jacques Le Goff, were added to this theorist, who, with different perspectives, collaborated for a more complete understanding of the proposed discussions. Thus, through the representation of different profiles of plastic artists, it appears that the author builds critical reflections that show her own strength as an artist of words.
