Resumo
Hemoglobinopathies occurring concurrent with obesity and other chronic diseases and metabolic consequences, has been described in various populations, although few studies in the Afro-descendant population. This study aimed to estimate the risk of excess weight / body fat and dyslipidemia, combining with hemoglobin A2 (HbA2) Afro-descendant population in the Brazilian Amazon. It conducted a cross-sectional study with 182 bordering maroon Trumpets in Oriximiná Para, northern Brazil, over 20 years, with 41.7% men and 58.3% women. We evaluated the categorized HbA2 dosage in <2.5% from 2.5-3.5% and> 3.5% (low, normal and high, respectively), anthropometric measurements (BMI-Body Mass Index, percentage body fat - BIA, abdominal fat - CC), lipemic profile with cholesterol and triglycerides dosage. Was used as an analytical procedure, averages of central tendency and dispersion, prevalence and association test with the risk estimated by odds ratios between variables considering separately the groups according to the HbA2 levels for the occurrence of overweight, excess body fat , abdominal obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertriglyceridemia, considering the positive and negative cases. Data analysis was processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and in all tests was the level of significance of 5% (p <0.05). It was observed that levels of HbA2 <2.5% had a prevalence of overweight of 69.0% and was statistically significant (p = 0.03), excess of 58.6% fat, abdominal obesity 35.7 %, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia 19.0% and 57.1%. When the level of HbA2 was among the highest prevalence 2.5-3.5% were overweight and hypercholesterolemia 50.4% and 67.8%, respectively, while the risk increased morbidity for all except for hypercholesterolemia. To the level of HbA2> 3.5%, the highest prevalences were abdominal obesity and hypertriglyceridemia and risks were lower for these morbidities, however we can emphasize that the risk for being overweight increased from 0.49 to 1.42 times chance of having these morbidities with respect to concentration levels of HbA2 <2.5%> 3.5% respectively.
