Binge eating disorder (BED) in adolescentsis characterized by episodes of excessive food intake, accompanied by loss of control and psychological distress. Its prevalence has increased due to individual, social, and environmental factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To identify, through a literature review, the prevalence of BED in adolescents and associated factors, supporting prevention and intervention strategies. Methods: This is a narrative review with a descriptive and qualitative approach. Searches were conducted in SCIELO, BVS, and Google Scholar using the keywords “Adolescents,” “Eating Disorders,” and “Binge Eating.” Articles published between 2019 and 2025, in Portuguese or English, with full text available, were included. Selected studies were critically analyzed, synthesizing information on prevalence, risk factors, psychosocial impacts, and intervention strategies. Results: Fourteen studies indicated an increase in BED prevalence. Individual factors, such as low self-esteem and difficulties in emotional regulation, were significantly associated with binge episodes (Stewart et al., 2021; Tan; Wilson, 2023). Sociocultural aspects, including social media exposure and aesthetic standards, directly influence eating behavior (Johnson; Ribeiro, 2021; Thomas et al., 2023). The COVID-19 pandemic intensified binge episodes, negatively affecting psychological well-being (Smith et al., 2020; Pimentel et al., 2021). Discussion and Conclusion: Multidisciplinary interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and school prevention programs, were effective in reducing episodes and promoting mental health (Fairburn, 2019; Silva et al., 2024; Springer et al., 2025; Wolfe et al., 2024). BED in adolescents is multifactorial, requiring integrated approaches to promote overall health and well-being.
