Resumo

The Brazilian Grammatical Standard (NGB) prescribes rules for the use of the Portuguese language, which include the structuring of relative clauses (also called subordinate adjectives) and the terms that compose them. Although such standards are applicable to writing, speech is influenced in some way by them, given that, depending on the communicational context, there may be a greater or lesser degree of monitoring on the part of the speaker. However, since the 80s, in Brazil, there have been frequent studies regarding these clause structures, which indicate that there is variation between 4 (four) types - non-prepositioned relative clause, prepositioned relative clause, copier relative and cutter relative clause -, being the latter replacing the prepositioned relative (prescribed in the NGB). The first two are called standard relative and the last two non-standard relative, according to Fernando Tarallo (1985). Given this panorama, through qualitative-quantitative research, in light of the assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics, we studied what are the relativization strategies in Manauara speech, taking into account the description of the set of relative pronouns used in Manauara speech, indicating the context syntax of each one, and the identification of possible intralinguistic and extralinguistic conditioners (age, education, older neighborhoods and newer neighborhoods of Manaus, gender) that favored the use of a relative variant over another(s). Among the results, we found that the relative ones, for example, cutters correspond to 83 realizations out of a total of 104 non-standard realizations.
