Resumo

This research investigated the road policy implemented in the Amazon during the Military Dictatorship, seeking to clarify the logic of the government strategy. It was linked to the ways of interpreting national and regional problems, leading to possible solutions. As for the methodological orientation, our study was exploratory and bibliographic in nature. The work consisted of three stages: in the first, we were concerned with contextualizing federal interventions in the Amazon region from the 1930s onwards, highlighting the governments of Getúlio Vargas and Juscelino Kubitschek, emphasizing the opening of the Belém-Brasília and Brasília-Brasília highways. Acre. In the second moment of the research, we discussed the relationship between the Military Dictatorship and the National Security Doctrine, the Amazon Operation and the opening of the BR-230 (Transamazônica), BR-163 (Cuiabá-Santarém), BR-319 (Manaus-Porto Velho) and BR-174 (Manaus-Boa Vista). In the third stage of the work, we present the results of the transport policy implemented in the Amazon between 1964 and 1985. Among them, we highlight accessibility, deforestation, population growth and occupation around the roads. Currently, the highways present in the region play a strategic role in the country's economy due to the flow of grain production.
