O profissional de enfermagem no cuidado aos pacientes com HIV/Aids no Amazonas

Abstract

Objective: To identify the dimensions of nursing care provided to people living with HIV/AIDS and its relation to the listing of professionals in referral centers in the Amazon. Method: Cross-sectional and exploratory study with nursing professionals who work in assisting people living with HIV/AIDS in the Amazon. We collected data through interviews, using structured instruments. Include professionals who work in the care of people living with HIV/AIDS in referral centers for HIV/AIDS in Manaus and Coari - Amazonas (clinic, hospital or testing and counseling), from December 2012 to May 2013. Typed the data into SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 16.0 for Windows. We conducted descriptive analysis with calculation of mean and standard deviation for continuous and number and percentage for categorical variables. We stratified the data by occupational category, if technician/nursing assistant or nurses. The dimensions of care were collected from a Likert type scale in which we classify nursing care in dimensions. To assess the association between the variables that constitute the profile of professional nursing and care dimensions relative to the comparison groups, we used the Pearson χ2 test at a significance level of 5 %. Results: We interviewed 78 nurses in 6 care services to HIV-positive patients. We identified a significant association between the size professional-patient relationship with the gender variable and the presence of stigma, professional/patient relationship and fear of professionals to infect the relationships of caring for people living with HIV/AIDS in the services studied. Conclusion: The results allow the knowledge of the dimensions of nursing care provided to people living with HIV/AIDS and the profile of professionals in referral centers in the Amazon, enabling the reflection of nursing professionals about their practices, contributing to greater understanding of implications imposed by AIDS in relations between care practitioner/patient, and consequently the improvement of nursing care to people living with HIV/AIDS.
