As figuras paternas em A morte de um caixeiro viajante, de Arthur Miller e em A moratória, de Jorge Andrade

Resumo

This study aims to produce a comparative analysis from the plays The Death of a Salesman, from 1949, by the North American playwright Arthur Miller and The Moratory, from 1955, by the Brazilian playwright Jorge Andrade, focusing on father figures, analyzing how they were represented and what their impact was played in the endings of the dramatic texts. In the two objects of study, the father figures represent male figures who move into a historical transition. There are supporting characters in the plays that outline certain actions of these protagonists, exposing relationship problems with the world and their families. They are figures not only presented as men with dominating masculinity but also with personal problems that make them insecure and emotionally unstable. Their relationships with their children are part of the greater dramatic tension in the plays, revealing the tragic aspects of fatherhood in the early 20th century. Through the characters in the works and the way that they relate to each other, it is possible to verify an analysis made by the authors of the negative consequences of the American dream and the 1929 coffee crisis.
