Resumo
This study has the objective of analyze the deaths for homicides of women residents in the metropolitan region of Belém, in the period 2006 to 2010, after the enactment of the Maria da Penha Law.This study is from the descriptive type with quantitative analysis, based on epidemiology. The data were obtained from the Sistema de Informação − SIM, through the database of the Departamento de Epidemiologia e Vigilância à Saúde – DEVES, from the Secretaria Municipal de Saúde.: The results of the study reveal that: the deaths from homicide of paraense women are 80.7%; their 10 leading causes of morbidity and mortality, the homicide occupies the ninth position with 3.45%. Among the 585 deaths by external causes (V01-Y84), 28.4% deaths are from homicides of women (X 85-Y09), assuming the third position in the ordering of deaths by external causes; 32.5% of these victims are between the ages of 20 to 29 years; 34.9% have low education level from 04 to 07 years; the housewives correspond to 30.7% of homicides; 66.9% were caused by shooting firearm or other unspecified cause and the neighborhood where there are more women victims is Cabanagem, with 7.8%. Finally, it reveals that the deaths of women by homicide increased by 7.2% between the years 2006 to 2010 and despite the Maria da Penha Law there was no significant reduction. Facts that prove the existence, in the city of Belém, in the 21st century, of a representative number of homicides of women in productive age, generating expenses and damage to public and private sector, with respect to essential services such as health and safety.
