Resumo
This study aimed to develop interdisciplinary educational practices for the teaching of Environmental Sciences from the mathematical and environmental knowledge expressed in artifacts of the local culture of the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira. To achieve the objective, the artifacts used by residents of the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira in everyday tasks, made by hand from raw materials available from the local environment, were identified from the students and their families. The research was carried out with students of the 1st year of the Technical Course in Informatics Integrated to High School at the Federal Institute of Education campus São Gabriel da Cachoeira. Based on the theory of systemic complexity and using the Case Study method during field research, techniques were applied: group dynamics, interviews using semi-structured forms, field diaries, photographic records, construction of mental maps and direct observation of the speech. As a result of the research, it was revealed that many of these artifacts have been present in the municipality for generations, sharing similarities in models with people from other locations, but with different graphics that bear the signature of the people who made it; there are also those who have fallen into disuse due to the arrival of industrialized artifacts. It was also evidenced that the conservation of local knowledge (mindfacts) is fundamental to the cultural maintenance and conservation of local biodiversity, source of the raw material used in the process of making the artifacts. Based on the understanding of the mathematical knowledge (mentefatos) expressed in the researched utilitarian artifacts, an educational booklet was developed to assist high school educators in addressing the interdisciplinary teaching of mathematics integrated with environmental sciences. These educational practices are expected to give a new meaning to the teaching of mathematics based on the collective construction of mathematical thinking, knowing and doing expressed in the artifacts of local culture.
