O grito dos trabalhadores: movimento operário, reivindicações e greves na Manaus da Grande Guerra (1914-1918)

Abstract

It aims to study the protest and resistance movements of the workers of the city of Manaus during the period from 1914 to 1918, within the conjunct of the First World War. It analyzes the situation in which the city was before the WWI, as well as the manifestation of this external event in the Amazon. Investigate the relationship of the First World War with the local labor movement and its reactions. In addition, it verifies the living and working conditions of the various social agents present in the city of Manaus, as well as the forms of resistance, the uncertainties of life, and how these systems of relations were given in subjects’ daily lives, both in the public space and in private ones. We sought to map and discuss the various forms of resistance on the part of the workers and the local population, bringing out as a highlight the associations that were formed in the period. The May Day issue as a claim date, as well as the strikes that occurred during the period 1914-1918 were also ascertained.
