Resumo
This study aims to understand how psychological processes interfere with adherence to antiretroviral treatment for people living with HIV / AIDS. Examine the correlation of psychological characteristics (personality, anxiety, depression, stress, pattern of executive functioning and decision making) with adherence to ART for HIV / AIDS patients in the city of Manaus. This study has a quantitative, exploratory character. The research sample consisted of 54 people, 5 females (9.3%) and 49 males (90.7%), aged between 20 and 55 years (mean 29.72, standard deviation 7.7). To obtain adherence data, the “Questionnaire for the Evolution of Adherence to Antiretroviral Treatment” was used via the internet. For psychological characteristics, the use of Beck's Depression and Anxiety Scales was used, the Lipp's Stress Symptom Inventory for Adults (ISSL), the Factorial Personality Battery, Iowa Gambling Test - Brazilian Version (IGT-Br), for decision making and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test – computer version, for executive functions. The results show a significantly good association of competence, sub-factor of Achievement, anxiety, stress and executive functions with the adherence factors. We conclude the importance of assessing psychological characteristics in understanding the adherence to antiretrovirals of people living with HIV / AIDS, increasing the possibility of adequate adherence. And to emphasize the importance of the Psychologist in the multidisciplinary team, helping the patients and the team.
