Abstract

Recent warnings for the misuse of environmental resources worldwide are confirmed day after day. Even in places where it is possible to observe a large part of its natural resources intact, threats are observed. This is what happens in the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, in Amazonas, whose territory holds more than one hundred waterfalls suitable for tourist activities. Despite this municipality (still) maintaining a good part of its territory composed of intact forests, the growing deforestation puts a daring pressure on the region's natural assets. Unlike many other locations, which also suffer from environmental degradation, the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo has an opportunity at this time, its natural potential for ecotourism. In this light, the work aims to attribute value to the exploration of one of the largest waterfall complexes in Brazil. It is understood that the absence of value impairs the potential of this economic activity in relation to other segments whose consequences are harmful to the environment and that their respective value is very well assimilated in the human mentality. Using a beta variable, we conclude that visitors to the Presidente Figueiredo waterfall complex are willing to contribute approximately 13% of their daily income to the environmental improvement of the site, resulting in a potential collection of approximately R $ 4,000,000, 00 per year, with an increase of R $ 500,000.00, if the tourist hitchhiker behavior is remedied. For the value of the Presidente Figueiredo waterfall complex, a value of approximately R $ 35,000,000.00 was estimated. Finally, some suggestions are presented based on the results obtained, with contributions being proposed that can help the sustainable development of the municipality. Keywords: Valuation. Amazon.
