(Não) Cobertura jornalística sobre meio ambiente nas plataformas digitais: A Crítica e Em Tempo

Abstract

The research carried out in this Master's thesis deals with Environmental Journalism and the coverage of news about the environment in the Internet, in the electronic versions of the newspapers A Crítica and Em Tempo, in the Brazilian city of Manaus, the most important city in the state of Amazonas. Its general objective is to analyze content, periodicity of journalistic texts on the environment on digital platforms in Manaus, in the period between 2015 and 2017, demonstrating the influence of Communicational Ecosystems in the communicational processes of news. Its specific objectives are to raise historical aspects of Journalism; relate local matters with environmental agendas or their absence; identify environmental agendas in Manaus. The study was guided by the theoretical - methodological perspective of Communicational Ecosystems. The chosen methodology is of a qualitative and quantitative nature, which were delimited in three different moments: bibliographical research, data collection and interviews and then, data analysis and interpretation. The result and analysis of the bibliographic research and data collection demonstrated the existence, although not very significant, of local and international environmental agendas on the agenda of environmental news. It presents the most recurring subjects in these journalistic articles and proves the low number of journalistic publications on the environment when compared to other more common editorials such as Economy, Politics and Sport. Reasons such as criteria for journalistic news, to the detriment of the socio-environmental importance of environmental news, political and commercial interests, are just some of the reasons in the great web of interests involved in the prerequisites of those who determine whether environmental guidelines should be news or not.
