Santarém: um levantamento da estrutura demográfica da escravaria santarena (1871-1888)

Abstract

The aim of this dissertation is to make a demographic survey of the slaves existing in the city of Santarém in the second half of the nineteenth century from the promulgation of the Free Belly Law occurred in 1871 until the liberation of slaves in 1888. Initially aiming to draw a social profile and In order to get a glimpse of its construction, the city will be used to provide visibility of travelers and provincial reports. And to continue the development of the research, was decided to use documents such as post mortem inventories, will books, baptism records and other available documents. Thus, what is sought is to quantify this captive population santarena and its owners and from the numerical data listed find traces of sociability woven by this portion of society that was relegated to obscurantism, especially in the Lower Amazon.
