The objective of the study was to determine the crude protein (CP) requirement of juveniles of matrinxã, evaluating the zootechnical performance, hematological parameters and enzymatic activities. Sixty fish with 29.03 ± 1.16g were distributed in 12 tanks of 310 L, in a completely randomized design, with four treatments and three replications, in a system with partial renovation of water with constant artificial aeration. Fish were fed three times a day (8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.) to apparent satiety for 52 days, with diets containing increasing levels of crude protein: 27, 32, 36 and 40%. At the end of the experiment, the zootechnical performance, the hematological profile and the activity of digestive enzymes in matrinxã were evaluated. Data were submitted to unidirectional analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by polynomial regression, with significance of P<0.05. The performance of the animals showed significant differences for the variables (PF, GP, CAA, TCE, TEP and TRL) and (HT, RBC, TRI and PT) of the hematological profile indicating that the level of 40% of PB is the most adequate for the juvenile stage of the species, whereas the activities of the digestive enzymes did not present significant statistical difference. However, it is necessary to carry out new studies to determine the ideal protein, digestible and amino acid profile to meet the nutritional requirements of the species.
