Resumo
This thesis aims to understand indigenous territorial policies and their
interfaces schools, shamanism, property in the frontier zone in the municipality of
Tabatinga-Amazonas, whose main objective is to understand the process of
territorialization of the Tikuna community of Umariçú located on the outskirts of the
municipality of Tabatinga, extreme northwest of the State of Amazonas. The research
analyzes government policies aimed at indigenous populations whose objective is to
maintain territorial control of these populations through the process of encouraging
the urbanization of communities. It also highlights the struggle of the Tikuna
indigenous peoples to maintain possession of the territory. The dissertation is divided
into three essays organized as follows: in the first essay we give a brief analysis of
the history of indigenous peoples in Brazil. In the second essay we analyze territorial
public policies in the Amazon. In the third essay we make reference through
interviews on the importance and symbolism of the land for the Tikuna indigenous
people of the Tikuna indigenous community of Umariaçú. The result of the research
leads us to understand the process of struggle of the Tikuna to acquire the
demarcation and ensure the possession of their land. We briefly mention the
relationship between spirituality and territory in the context of the Tikuna community
of Umariaçú.
